March 2025 Events

The Sunday of Orthodoxy commemorates the restoration of the Holy Icons. Our Sunday school children joined the congregation in the celebration of the momentous event (March 9th, 2025).  

On March 23rd 2025. Veneration of the Holy Cross, annual Annunciation luncheon and 1821 Greek War for Independence. 

The Sunday school students helped us celebrate the 1821 Greek War for Independence from the Ottoman Empire by reading an article about the heroism of our ancestors.

 

The luncheon was kindly offered by Polly & Allan Hillier and it was delicious. 

 

A huge thank you to all who helped make this event a success! 

Sisters Upscale Thrift Sale

March 15, 2025

On March 15th our Philoptochos sisters organized a thrift sale that was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who donated and volunteered at this event. We raised more than $2,000 and we donated a truck load of stuff of equal value to local charity shops.  A portion of the proceeds will be donated to local charities. Thank you again and again! 

Washington Classical Christian School

February 25, 2025

Students and staff visited our church on February 25th to learn about our faith and the impact it has in our community and our country. The students engaged in a very interesting discussion about church architecture, iconography, music, etc. 

They were very impressed and want to visit again next fall. 

GOYA

January 19, 2025

On January 19th, the Holy Trinity GOYAns prepared 50 plus meals for the St. Francis House. They prepared grilled chicken, pasta with alfredo sauce and Greek-style green beans.

Our GOYA is about fun, fellowship and service.  

 

The St. Francis Housing Crisis Center is a housing-focused program, accommodating men, women and families.

Epiphany Celebration

January 6, 2025

Holy Trinity Church Epiphany celebration took place at the Shrimping and Boat Builders Monument in St. Augustine. Fr. Maximos was joined by the faithful for the blessing of the waters. It was a beautiful day! 

Restore - Renew - Revitalize

​Restoration work was recently completed on the church's exterior. The stucco has been repaired and the entire church including the dome has been painted. Much needed roof repairs will commence in January. ​

Our church has received generous donations enabling us to do the work. Our most heartfelt gratitude to the donors for their generosity. God bless you!

Our GOYAans help prepare our church for the holidays. A Christmas Beach party is always fun. Thank you Mrs. Paula Marchman-Lekas for your hospitality!

 

Sunday School Christmas Party and Pageant
On December 15, after Divine Liturgy the congregation along with the Sunday school children sang Christmas carols and hymns. Their Christmas party included gifts and cookie decorating.


On December 22, the congregation enjoyed the Christmas pageant that was performed by our Sunday school children. The children received their gifts and enjoyed each other’s company.


Many thanks to the parents and teachers for supporting our children and our community.

Saint Photios Open House

The ladies from the Philoptochos chapters of Holy Trinity in St.  Augustine, St. Demetrios of Daytona Beach & St. John the Divine in Jacksonville, hosted the open house of St. Photios Greek Orthodox National Shrine. 

Amazing team work reflecting the core values of Philoptochos – Philanthropy, Fellowship and Faith in action.

Gifts of Gratitude for Veterans

December 6, 2024

The Philoptochos chapters of our church and St. Demetrios in Daytona Beach, along with the St. Photios Greek Orthodox National Shrine, collected gifts for all the  veterans at the Clyde E. Lassen Veteran Nursing Home in St. Augustine.

November Bake Sale and December Christmas Bazaar

The ladies of our Philoptochos chapter baked all kinds of goodies that were sold in order to raise money for the charities that we support.


The Bazaar was equally successful with the auction of several beautiful baskets, handmade gifts, books and gifts from our Book Store, and Greek products from the Agora.


The ladies also hosted a Lenten meal for all our parishioners!


Our Sunday school children created a festive atmosphere with Christmas carol, cookie decorating and gift giving!

Greek Fest - Taverna Style

October 25 and 26, 2024

The Greek Taverna was a wonderful event that was enjoyed by everyone! 

The food was delicious and there was plenty of it! Everyone took boxes home! 

The room decorations were delightful and the overall atmosphere extremely welcoming! 

The service, the music, the dancing, the pastries, etc. - absolutely  everything was wonderful! 

A huge THANK YOU to our parishioners who made it all happen!

First Day of Sunday Church School

September 8, 2024

The first day of Sunday Church school was an orientation and get acquainted day. The children met the teachers and caught up with their old friends. We enjoyed snacks and refreshments. We're off to a great start and a great school year! 

Blessing of the Backpacks

August 25th was the blessing of the backpacks for our Sunday Church school students. A prayer was read by Fr. Nicholas Wyborski for our students, parents and teachers. Wishing everyone a successful school year! 

Dormition of the Theotokos Luncheon

On Sunday, August 18th our parishioners enjoyed a delicious lunch commemorating the Dormition of the Theotokos.

 

Thank you to everyone who came and supported the philanthropic efforst of our parish. Also, a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to make this event a success!

256th Anniversary of Greek Landing Day

June 26, 2024

June 26th 2024 marked the 256th anniversary of Greek Landing Day. The event is celebrated at the St. Photios National Shrine in St. Augustine annually. 

Our Philoptochos chapter provided snacks and refreshments at this event with assistance from our area parishes, St. Demetrios of Daytona Beach and St. John the Divine of Jacksonville.

Polly Maouris Hillier, the St. Photios National Shrine Executive Director, stated that this year’s Greek Landing Day was the best she has experienced and was very thankful for everyone’s help.

Thank you V. Rev. Father Maximos Politis and Metropolitan Dimitrios of Xanthos for helping us celebrate this special day and also many thanks to all our volunteers and contributors who made this day very memorable. 

Philoptochos Donations

Summer 2024

In June, Faye Peterson, our Philoptochos Social Services liaison delivered a $500 donation check to Alpha Omega Miracle Home in St. Augustine as part of our Community Outreach efforts.

In August, the Philoptochos members collected school supplies (backpacks, notebooks, pencils, crayons, etc.) and dropped them off at A.S.S.I.S.T. (Aid & Support for Students in Sudden Transition). The staff was very appreciative and the supplies were distributed to Title 1 school students. Our Philoptochos chapter has been contributing school supplies for at least five years. Thank you to all our members for their generosity and a bigger thank you to the ladies who delivered them!

Coffee Hour with Agape

June 2024

Our youngest member of our Parish Agape Kallas, hosted "coffee hour" with her mom Nadia. We're all grateful for this ministry of hospitality that's offered by all of us! 

Agape was also interested about the maintenance and issues concerning our building. This reflects the spirit of our community leaders and fills us with immense optimism. 

Greek Summer Night

June 8, 2024

The 2024 Greek Summer Night was a huge success!  A big thank you (and OPA!) to everyone for your support and participation.  The night was filled with fun, dancing and Greek food, and proceeds benefit our beloved Holy Trinity Church.

Easter

Easter celebrations commenced with Saturday of Lazarus, Palm Sunday, Holy Week and Christ’s glorious Resurrection.

Our faithful worshipped during Holy Week and we all came together to celebrate Easter Sunday with an amazing potluck Agapi meal.

The Philoptochos ladies helped with decorating the church, the icons, the Epitaphios, also the set-up for the Agapi luncheon, clean-up, etc. 

Alpha Omega Miracle Home Diaper Drive

May 2024

During May, we had a diaper drive for the Alpha Omega Miracle Home that provides housing, counseling and education to single mothers, their children and senior women.

 

We collected diapers of all sizes, pull ups, wipes, small stuffed animals, etc.

Home Again St. Johns and St. Francis House Donation Drive

April 2024

During April, we collected donations for Home Again St. Johns and St. Francis House.

 

Some of the items we collected were laundry detergent, paper towels, toilet paper, trash bags, toothbrushes and toothpaste, assorted personal hygiene items, socks, multipurpose cleaners, water bottles, over-the-counter medications, etc.

 

Home Again St. Johns is a drop-in shelter that provides resources for the homeless to return to self-sufficiency, ending the cycle of homelessness. Pictured on the left is Ellen Walden, Executive Director of Home Again St. Johns with Faye Peterson, Philoptochos Social Services chairperson.

Oratorical Festival 

March 30, 2024

It was an honor to host the Northeast Florida Conference District Oratorical Festival.

Congratulations to the Parish Priests who encourage the families, the parents who encourage their children, the children who find the courage, and the communities that foster learning and sharing.

Faith flourishes where good works are performed in fellowship. 

Congratulations to our Parish Council and Philoptochos members for all their help in hosting this event. We enjoyed meeting the participants and their families! God's blessings to all of you!

The Feast of the Annunciation

March 24, 2024

The Feast of the Annunciation of our Theotokos and the Greek Independence day were celebrated on Sunday, March 24th.  It is also the Sunday of Orthodoxy commemorating the restoration of the holy icons.

 

Our Parishioners enjoyed a crab cake lunch prepared by our very own talented Chefs, accompanied by salad rice, veggies and dessert.

Everyone enjoyed the special Feast day!  Thank you to all who participated. 

The Philoptochos Chapter Tea

Holy Trinity Church GOYA is about fun, fellowship and service. The Philoptochos Chapter Tea was held on March 16th.

Thank you Dianna for your hospitality and sharing your beautiful home with your sisters in Christ. Everything was perfect!

Apokriatiko Glendi 

March 2, 2024

Apokries is Greece's carnival season. It's a period of eating, drinking, dancing and masquerading. Holy Trinity hosted a traditional Apokriatiko Glendi. The church hall was beautifully decorated and our parishioners enjoyed a great evening with friends and family, with wonderful food, music dancing and fun.

Our GOYA members helped with set-up, decorations, serving, cleaning up and of course, they danced!

The Holy Trinity Church GOYA volunteered at the Apokriatiko Glendi on March 2nd. Along with preparing and serving, they also performed. 

 

On March 3rd, the GOYANs prepared 50 meals for the St. Francis House – a housing-focused program, accommodating men, women and families, who receive specific assistance to ensure that stability of the family unit is maintained.  Holy Trinity Church GOYA is about fun, fellowship and service.
